SOUTHERN CAMEROONS RADIO
Letter to Agbor Balla
Dear sir,
I am glad that you are out and doing well. Your freedom meant the world to us and we did the unthinkable to regain it. Some comrades joined you in prison because they were fighting for your freedom. Some heros actually fell in the battlefield fight for you freedom. But today, a lot of us are asking, "sir, are you really free?"
When you were released there were rumors that you have been compromised. Of course most of us didn't believe because we trust you as a fighter for the people. You had a record of speaking for the voiceless, fighting for the oppressed, and championing for the people. What changed?
After listening to you first on Equinox TV, and the then on BBC, I haven't been able to sleep. It is no longer a question of whether you have been compromised. We want to know what does LRC have on you that has changed your person. Please don't let them change you like they did to the Issa Tchiruma of the 90s. If you have listened to Tchiruma now then you know exactly how that ends.
Sir, your BBC interview felt like a knife in the heart. It sounded like Nelson Mandela after coming out of prison and telling the people that what South Africa needs was an apartheid of equal status. Are you really serious about this federation thing? I am still trying to comprehend what could change a man who used to champion for the people now championing ideas so far from his people. You actually sounded like the newest spokesperson for LRC. Credit to LRC, at least they know that the only way to infiltrate and crush our aspiration for self determination is to use one of ours. Sir, how could you say all the things you said in that interview? What about me? What about Camrade Mancho, and all those you left behind in LRC concentration camps? What about comrade Tassang, and all those on exile? What about those who have paid the ultimate price with their lives? How dare you say some lawyers can go back to court if they want to. How dare you say schools should resume. How dare you say we should go back to normalcy. Are you saying we have achieved the things that led us to start this crisis in the first place? Are you saying that things are better now than a year ago? Or are you simply saying that things would never change, we should all give up and pray that LRC finds it in their "good heart" to forgive us, so that we can live perpetually as an oppressed people in their "one and indivisible" CameroUn, ever after.
Sir, there's one thing you are missing. While you were in captivity a lot of things changed. It is no longer a lawyer or teachers strike. It is now the people's struggle! In as much as we yearn for leadership, any true leader of his people must express and represent the interest of his people. You might not know it, but what you say puts the governing council in an awkward position. What you say can singlehandedly jeopardize our gains. I'd rather you join Justice Ayah and Dr Fontem in maintaining silence at this time. Atleast they know they cannot speak freely so they are not speaking at all. We would not tolerate any leader who doesn't represent the majority interest of Ambazonians. We know you have been travelling to the various counties, please represent the interest of the people you talked with. I don't know where you were on the 22nd of September and 1st of October, but our people came out hugely to tell you and the world where we stand and what we want.
There has been quite a public debate on whether you truly are compromised. Some people say, no, because on occasions you have thrown 1 or 2 jabs at LRC. Of course we expect anyone speaking for LRC to first of all pretend to criticize their gov't in order to gain some trust from the people. We call it "criticize and sabotage." No matter how much you criticize LRC, so long as to defend federation we would consider you a snake oil (mboma oil) merchant. This is not politics, this is a revolution! Join the SDF or CPDM and play politics or stand with the people and revolt.
We suffer today as a people because we have been a state all along with true leadership. In the past we have lacked leadership that is selfless. We have lacked leadership that puts posterity first place. We have lacked leadership that admires legacy. In these times, I guarantee you we will test-run anyone and everyone who wants the big title of "Mr. President", "Mr. Chairman", etc, without understanding the duty of leadership.
PS- We need you in this struggle man. Speak again for us. Fight again for the people.
Thanks.
